    Hey Sheri
I agree it can be hard to stay in the ceremony and also found in my session how some items seem to happen more naturally than others.
I too like the idea of finding out some of the clients’ resources beforehand or right off the bat, and I am reminded to look again at my intake form since I haven’t in a while.
For me personally, I’m not sure I’d want their story in an initial meeting. My thinking behind that is because then it may make me analyze what they are saying in future sessions and take away from me being or helping my client be in the present moment. But knowing some history can be helpful at times too so ??

To establish the coaching relationship I asked if they were comfortable with me being their guide/ coach for the allotted amount of time, made it clear that our meeting was confidential and asked them what they would like to work on during that time.
I was asked to bring a stick and axe to the session so nature was a part in that way. ( I did not bring an axe, I brought a hatchet.) This request alone brought some excitement and intrigue to the session for both of us. We did not end up using them, but they were there and may be used in a future session. The client discovered they were not quite to ready to complete the ritual they had envisioned and that they were very much in the high range beta and wanted to be lower range to explore the situation fully. Not so much in this session because we didn’t get outside, but the outside environment would be every metaphorical in change theory and in balancing the systems in the body.
It was a challenge for me to keep bringing them out of the story the very much wanted to tell so I let them tell it to “get if off their chest” and they were then able to focus on the present moment and sensations in the body.
The session flowed well as we were able to bring in different aspects of healing and incorporation that fit well with the clients interests and were relevant to the situation. I made note of things that may be explored in future sessions so we could focus on the current, specific need at this time.
Pendulating seemed to happen quote naturally.
With this intensive I learned that nature is a huge resource for me and that in coaching sessions even if it’s just imagined it is very beneficial.
Listening for the stages of changes and where a client is in their brain/waves is very helpful to know where to go next in guiding a client, as is knowing it can go back and forth and repeat itself and that they may not be in a place of awareness at the moment helps me to know that I’m not running around in circles or don’t know what i’m doing. I am a big fan of pausing and seeing/hearing what comes next.
Overall Nature connected principals work to bring a client into a space where they can be in a state where awareness and change is possible.

What I am taking away from the Gestalt module is that Gestalt is the here and now, being in this current moment with the client. How I show up as a coach is part of that moment, how they show up as a client is too. As the coach I need to be aware and watch for the body language of a client to show me if there is a conflict between what the client is saying and their physical expression and what does that tell me? The client is, like always, the one in control but I can also gently push towards their comfort edges a bit to see what may open up for them. Creating an experience where the client can physically explore a situation in a new way to complete a cycle of experience/ therapeutic cycle with a new outcome to create the beginning of new neural pathways is very impactful. To me Gestalt is something that is always part of all sessions wether it be “just” being present and in the moment with the client and keeping them there, watching their physical body expressions in a situation or going all the way into an experiment.

Reading Mindsight in Chapter 10 he talks about self-state/states of mind, state integration. I feel like this could be like using parts work, but this is at a mind level vs the soul level. And like integration is like repurposing parts to serve the highest good. Is anyone else reading this book, or have read it?

    PartsWork initial post

I met with my client online. She’d been thinking about her different parts since our last session.
To establish the coaching relationship and focus the session we went through the regular intro of asking permission for me to be her coach/guide, confidentiality, and a check in to sink in and centre before starting the session. We briefly discussed what had/hadn’t been done form the “homework” from the last session and anything new that’s come up.
She chose to explore what some of her parts are during the session today which I find turned out to be a good idea before she did more so on her own incase she had any questions, making sure she was looking at if from the soul level, needed any more explanation.
Nature came in very easily as the client used a nature analogy naming her first part.
The original goal was to create a list f parts but in identifying the first one a need arose for that part so I adapted by explaining a bit more on how the process works and how the soul can help getting that need be met through conversing with other parts.
I feel like this flowed well as learning about it is easiest done by experiencing it.
I learned that there are lots of different elements I want to add to my coaching practice and that often times they are brought up by the clients, not me wondering if I should bring it up which helps me feel like it will all fit together nicely!
I’ve been reading Mindsight and it really brings it all together nicely with why we/people do/say/think the way we do and how we can change for the better!
I’d love to add parts work in as much as I can even if it’s informally during a session. We all seem to say part of me this, part of me that and being aware of that is very insightful.
PartsWork enhances my coaching approach by helping me feel more comfortable and natural in listening and watching for cues and information into what my client is, or isn’t saying or expressing openly and the duality and conflicts they are experiencing.
The need for dropping into a soul level to do partsowrk fits great into NCC because it encourages connection at that level. I feel nature’s metaphors bring a gentle side to what can seem scary to some clients. I noticed too that sharing my experience in working with parts work can help explain it well and show how it works.
NCC, PW are both physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, all encompassing and I am excited to learning and practicing more on myself, and with clients.

    Summary post-
What I am taking away from this module is that there is a LOT going on and to be aware of between the coach and client without even words being spoken.
How I hold myself, what’s going on in my mind, my day, my life, will all interact with the session.
I need to maintain a safe container for my clients to be and feel safe to be open and supported while also keeping my separateness to be able to do so properly.
Staying in the present while listening for how the past or future is trying to creep into the moment can be difficult at times.
I like the focus on the physical sensations that come up without having to give them a name like anxiety, stress, or other labels from society. The idea of helping someone change how their body reacts to a memory, thought or event, to help them create a new pathway is very exciting to me. I believe this is how we heal and grow and continue on our journeys to living our best lives.
That day at the Starhouse when Derek said “I would have run out the door with you” because trauma gets stuck in the body are words I will never forget. Helping someone through that doorway, to a better, healthier, happier life will be an honour.
There is a process to follow as a guideline and not all session may hit on each point, and that’s ok. I can go with my gut, and go with the flow and my client can still have an impactful, insightful session.

I think it depends. I knew my client needed to be able to confide in someone and get it off her chest. Once those wheels stopped spinning she was more open to new possibilities and in a calmer state.

    Hey Nadine.
I’ve refined some of my parts since the Starhouse too. Changed a name, repurposed one, added another one I thought was part of another but really is it’s own, etc.

    Hey Sheri
I definitely think that clients need to be soul connected to do PartsWork. This was they can also recognize introjects, fear, etc. With sharing my own experience it puts it into context and makes it easier to understand the process of exploring, defining and working with parts.

Hey Sheri. I like the idea of setting the table with spots for different parts. I was not in person with my client so we only talked with one part and the soul for the first session so they’d get the idea and not get too confused. I’ve heard comments similar to “I don’t get this much out of therapy!” as well. It sure is a confidence booster, isn’t it?! Having clients simply to be aware of their different parts is a good way to get the ball rolling. I’ve found myself doing the same thing whenever I find myself thinking part of me this, part of me that.

Hi Kim! I love that your doing partswork came up organically, and the idea of a partswork worksheet! and thank you for reminded me to pay attention where the client is in the cycle of experience. I too found that I had to step out of the partswork process to allow for clarificatoin, explanations, questions. I feel like not having to do this will take practice and become more flowing as we go.

Hi Kim. I totally understand the need to “backup and separate myself out of what I already know and how I want to help my friend”. I find that even when coaching someone who is not considered a friend, but may have similar stories or associations (like with NCL students) that I am needing to practice this as well.
I love that you two got together on the water, a place safe for her.

Amber I too found that sharing a bit about myself, either at the beginning or if it’s relevant during the session really does help the client open up, that feeling of being understood can make a big difference. With a different client than I talked about before we found that taking time at the beginning and/or end of the session to just drop in and be present is very helpful and we will continue to do so in future sessions as well. This clients need to have time for herself to do that was not happening outside of the session so putting it in the session makes sense.

I don’t think it was just about not keeping eye contact, also that it was harder to notice her body language in general as we walked side by side. This makes me think that instead of walking most of the time I can change it up and try and find somewhere to sit at first and chat, then walk a bit if needed…It’s rainy season though and who wants to walk around with a wet butt!!?? I suppose it’s time to pull out the ziplock bags with the newspaper in them or the crazy creek…

Mandy I love the idea of sitting back to back for support, etc!!!
I may need to use this one day!
