    Hi All,
A few of you have asked– so I am dropping this info here in the Forum. You may have noticed from your email that the EBI Community Council Fire online meeting has been rescheduled from this Friday to now occur on June 17 at 6pm MDT.

Our Foundations Orientation meeting is still scheduled for this Friday, May 17 at 10am MDT. They are not the same meeting. Hope to see you at one or both. 🙂 The Foundations meeting will be recorded and posted here.

    Best, Ivy

    Amber–Good question!
You do not need to bring your books to the Foundations Intensive.

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for sharing your stories thus far. Keep ’em coming! 🙂

I’ve had a few emails from this cohort about camping gear and reading. I thought to drop in some answers here for all of you.

Here is a link for the camping gear list. Please let me know if you are having issues collecting the right gear or have concerns about bringing it– especially for those flying. We could explore creative options from shipping to lending you something.

About reading: Here’s the link for the NCC reading list. The two most important books for Foundations are: Coyote’s Guide and Coaching Skills. You are not expected to read everything before you arrive. However, you may want to familiarize yourself with these books. And check in with yourself about your learning style– perhaps reading before will have you more at ease….or maybe reading more after the Foundations will help you to incorporate the information. Consider your preference and also your schedule. As we work through the online component of the Foundation modules, there will be some additional reading in the form of PDFs (provided). There is one week between online posts reserved for reading. We’ll go over exactly how this works when we are together at the Foundations. I hope this information helps you to choose how you would like to approach reading before we meet. Please feel free to ask more questions about reading or other topics. 🙂

Good to know that you will be coming into Gunnison, Nadine! When I have a picture of all the travel arrangements for students arriving into Gunnsion Airport, I will figure out a time to meet in Gunnison and have someone from EBI pick you all up. 🙂

Ah, the threshold! I really enjoyed reading your individual puzzlings and explanations about what is happening in the threshold, the mystery and connections.

I trust completely that more will arrive for you all, in a very organic manner, through the rest of the training to connect your internal wisdom and “book learning” about how to play (and work) with the threshold. Remember, the threshold is an experience with that which your client wishes to BE-come.

In the competencies hand out, if you look at the NCC Deep Listening section, as Lisa mentioned, Listening to Nature has a few simple summaries. I will mention two here because I think if you only had these two in your back pocket they could help tremendously in a threshold: The guide: 1.) Identifies the ways in which Nature informs and mirrors activity in the coaching process. 2.) Reflects observations of Nature to help client discover direct and metaphorical meaning of nature interactions.

As a guide in the threshold, it can be fun and challenging to listen for (and see) how your client is receiving and interpreting the land and its elements. And as the guide, there is the opportunity to set your own intention to stay open and notice the metaphor in the land as it relates to what your client is seeking or experiencing.

If nothing else, working in the threshold is about trust– trusting your client already has the answers inside of them and these will unfold, trusting that the client’s body-mind knows where to go and what to focus on, and trusting that nature always shows up in the way needed (including you, you beautiful expression of Nature, you). Aaah, relax! and pay attention! in the threshold. 🙂

    Hi friends,
It is wonderful to read your thoughts, questions, discoveries, and how each of you are exploring the question of how ecopsychology and coaching come together in a way that is really relevant for you.

Ecopsychologists are attempting to shift the cultural vision from within the ivory tower and are using the language of that territory to insert new dialogues, methods, options, to inspire, demand and create justice.
I believe you and I working alongside them, in our various practices with hearts and feet on the ground. Reminding and re-connecting people, of what their bodies are made to know and “belong to”: Earth as a Being, as an interconnected system (Gaia) and as a smaller expression of a “larger Self”.

A possibility: to know that we are each an integral and sensitive part of this WHOLE being. What information or resources flow from this reality that help you as a coach or your clients?

Much of the ecopsychology reading that I’ve found calls on individuals and culture to identify with what they LOVE- from nature, to family, to relationships, and health. What we love is always a more powerful motivation for action, commitment and joy (rather than guilt or scientific data). Imagine how coaching helps to connect our clients with what they truly love and want to live for. Imagine how much more powerful these feelings are while being held and examined within the awe-filled container of nature and connection. Magic!

If our individual psyches are a part of the larger psychology of earth, how might this influence how we see each other, our clients, the land, animals, ecosphere, what troubles and delights us, and all the various choices we make? Have fun out there being your wild selves.

    Hi All,
How are things going with finding lodging in the Boulder area? Does anyone need help or have questions with lodging or anything else regarding the Foundations? Also– for those of you that have booked AirBNBs, please let me know if you have additional rooms available.

    Best,
    Ivy

    Hi Shari and all,
Purchasing the 4th edition is perfectly fine. And especially because you found it at such an inexpensive price! Please share here in the forum where you found it, if others might be able to purchase for $7, too!

    Carrie,
It is wonderful to hear that you are finding ways to integrate all that you have learned over the years and to give it back to your various students and make NCC your own. I remember a recent session I witnessed at the F2F where you coached and how animals were very prominent in the metaphors and conversations. Your client had a very meaningful experience. I appreciate the wide variety of skills and creative mind sets that you are fluent in. It’s wonderful that you continue to find and create ways to deliver your vision and share within your communities.

    Hi Amber,
Thanks for getting this forum started! 🙂 Yes, there are some books to purchase for the Foundations. They are

The Coyote’s Guide to Connecting with Nature, by Jon Young and Coaching Skills: A Handbook, 3rd ed. by Jenny Rogers. These are the most essential textbooks for the Foundation Modules. These will be an important reference for you for years to come. Here is a link for the entire NCC reading list.

    Hi M.J.,
Thanks for dropping your question in the forum about the timing of the next Intensive– so everyone can be on the same page.

The Gestalt and Partswork module will be held at the Starhouse from April 22-26. Class days will be held from 9:30am to 4:30pm Monday – Thursday. On Friday, April 26th we will have Fishbowls. Class begins at 9:30am and will be finished at 2:30pm.

For anyone who has not already done so, please always RSVP to the next Intensive by filling out the RSVP form. Many of you have already done so by clicking on the links in the Newsletters that say: RSVP for the next Intensive. I’d like you to know you can also access this form at any time at https://earthbasedinstitute.org/calender/ . Go there, find and click on your Intensive to fill out the RSVP.

    Thanks and very best,
    Ivy

    Hi Melissa,
Thanks for being in touch. Let’s see who might respond in a day or two with an extra spot in their AirBNB. Please chime in, friends!

    About the road to Starhouse:
To get to the Starhouse, you will travel up Mapleton Street on the West side of Boulder through a historic neighborhood. It is a beautiful area. Then the road goes up a winding canyon gaining elevation in a fairly dramatic way. Lastly, you will turn off onto a steep dirt road that, if it is icy or snowy, can be a real challenge. For this reason, it is optimal to have a 4×4 in the snowy months to get to the top of the road at the Starhouse. We could also coordinate in this forum to have carpooling arranged with those that have 4×4 vehicles. When the road is dry, it is passable by all vehicles.
