Hi Cohort 20,
In attempt to clarify the assignment above– please read all of the PDF and book chapter readings listed above to inform your initial post for Foundation One. An initial post can be about 2-3 paragraphs, a little more if need be. These posts are meant to be more reflective than academic. As the posts begin to come in, please respond to your peers. Let them know what their thoughts light up in you.
Please know very solidly: this is an invitation to begin with the curriculum early and the due dates are suggestions. We just opened up this offering to get started this past weekend during the June Online Sessions and we realize this might not be a fit for everyone to suddenly meet the deadlines. Rather, they are guidelines to try to get you all into a conversation here in the Learning Center as you write and post. Please feel free to adjust the due dates so they are a realistic match for your schedule.
Warmly,Ivy

After you check out your internet connection and if that doesn’t get to the root, please feel free to reach out to me at ivy@earthbasedinstitute.org. It would be helpful to know what device and web browser you are using. Note: Google Chrome pairs the best with our Learning Center. Thanks, Sam!

Hi Kim,
From your description of the session with your client, I hear how you (and nature) really held a patient and safe space for him to vent/get clear on the conflict and then move towards action steps.
It sounds like your use of resourcing really helped to move him out of the chemistry of the repeating story: “I asked him to talk to me about the trail we were on, what he saw/felt/heard/smell.” and into the PFC– into that creative, connected space: “It was like a light switch turning on – we could then really talk.”
It is simple and profound– that this moment can be a key teaching of the trauma module. Being able to notice and hold what your client is presenting (the story/maybe trauma) and invite them into a more grounded place within themselves and in nature. Change can then happen, and will, in its own organic, client-led way.

Hi all,
It has been wonderful to track the overtime conversation here, to see the revelations as they came forward. The illuminated moments/lessons that feel important are: how do I begin this conversation with my client? how do I help my client take this back to the Soul? I just jumped into the Partswork in a Gestalt manner–and found how both me and my client received a sense of empowerment with the flow of the session. A continued exploration of how to listen for/hear/weave in nature at the moment, online or in-person. How doing our own Partswork is essential–to learn the avenues and subtleties of Parts. The revelations of working with these questions over time feel juicy and how you each find the lived answers or experiences will powerfully inform your work with ‘your people’. Staying “not too tight and not too loose” while experimenting with Partswork in the moment feels relevant. Choices of: Thinking it through, creating a structure to offer (on how to introduce Partswork or bring in Nature to a session) or spontaneously giving it whirl– can you build intentions on how to do this that feel true to your Soul and your Parts, what you are working on as a coach, and then surrendering to your own perfect timing within this investigation? Questions, comments, reflections welcome. I appreciate all the active investigation I hear in your posts. Keep going! It is inspiring to hear how you are serving your clients, growing as coaches and touching into your Visions. <3

Hi Cohort 19,
Some new information about lodging on the Starhouse property came to me today. The rooms at MorningStar and the Retreat cabin are moving towards being rented by long term renters for an indefinite amount of time. This takes these two lodging offerings out of the running for when you come into town for Intensives. AirBnBs have worked well for many groups and individuals. Also, here is a lead from the Starhouse’s administrative assistant’s email to me:We have connected with A-Lodge, linked here https://a-lodge.com/, they may offer discounts for StarHouse participants, they are about 7 minutes away and they have a shuttle to transport to and from the StarHouse. They are great to work with and should be able to accommodate everyone needing overnight stays.
So– you may want to look into the A Lodge as an option that is close to the Starhouse.
Please let me know if you have questions. Best, Ivy

Hi Sheri, hi all,
I am reading your posts and appreciating the “ah-has” about story, formulating or following the ceremony, tracking the stages of changes and being aware and flexible while you dance in the unknown-becoming-known to you and your client. How to stay out of your own way. lol. Or if Derek share this with you: W.A.I.T.= Why Am I Talking? Ha! All good questions and important “ah-has” that we each find our unique way of holding these for our particular clients and our own gifts as coaches/humans. Figuring out how you each want/need to work with your clients. What is going to help you show up in the best way possible? Somewhere in between initial intake forms and education, or blank slates? Yes—“being open to how I am directed with each individual client” and ” asking permission/invitation along the way”.
I am noticing in this discussion forum and others, that the moment of “oh, that didn’t feel so great” when working with a practice client really illuminates where you DO want to go and how you want to show up instead. Practice coaching is the opportunity to try lots of things and allow yourself to fumble a bit. And like Nadine, giving yourself permission to go back and say (in essence), hey that didn’t feel quite right. I learned something. What did you ( practice client) get out of that?
Sheri, your example of being touched by the idea of coaching through the years (contemplation) but taking your time at committing to a program (planning) and doing the program with the label “nature connected coach in training” (action), has me reflecting on the organic process of change and the (right?) timing of it all. Trusting the process… And getting curious about holding the process with someone else (a coach) to grow. This is what we are holding space for with our ideal clients. How to meet them anywhere in the process with the ceremony that can increase their “fire”. It’s quite special. I wonder what your thoughts now as you look back at your journey through the lens of the ‘stages of change’? Was there a moment of intervention that you can remember or identify that galvanized your process? Share if you wish.

Hi Amber, It sounds like you are aware of tracking your client, the conflict, the Parts, what the Soul wants and continuously providing a space for the client to explore what feels important within the session. As empathic listeners/trackers/guides, we get a lot of information in any one session and sometimes the space to move with particular pieces doesn’t come up in that session. Allowing the curiosity to remain in you about: my client struggles with focus and the Healer suggests to slow down– can be a place you build “a cairn” or marker in your mind. Perhaps you will return to it explicitly with your client as you see this come up again. Helping to highlight where she is and where she wants to go: from distraction to slowed down focus. This feels like the dance we do with our clients– holding space for all the pieces they are working with, adding in space for the organic change process in between sessions and then picking up in the next session with what has occurred and what still wants to come into fullness.
I feel like I didn’t answer your question with a “you could do this!” suggestion. Rather, I am saying– stay curious, stay aware of the patterns and desired spots for change. Make them explicit when the moment is ripe. Co-create with your client and the organic process of change– which is an expression of Nature. Comments or questions welcome.
